Facebook is introducing 3D photos in News Feed and Virtual Reality(VR) to able users to create and view 3D photos. The users can view and create 3D photos with life-like dimensions including depth and movement.

Users can choose to adjust and experiment with creating multiple layers, contrasting colors, and textures to create photos in 3D.

On Thursday, the facebook 360 team wrote in a blog-post “Everyone will be able to see 3D photos in News Feed and VR today, while the ability to create and share 3D photos begins to roll out today”

The main technology behind 3D photos is the distance between the subject in the foreground and the background.

“Take the photo in ‘Portrait’ mode using your compatible dual-lens smartphone, then share as a 3D photo on Facebook where you can scroll, pan and tilt to see the photo in realistic 3D”  added by the Facebook team.

Facebook, the social networking giant would allow users to view the 3D photo in VR using the Firefox or “Oculus Go” browser on Oculus Rift by trapping, dragging or tilting their heads to enjoy the three dimensions in photos.

The new features will be available to everyone in the upcoming weeks.

“We’re listening to feedback on this new format and we continue rolling it out to everyone” the facebook 360 team added.

This new feature was announced earlier during the ‘F8’ event in May.
