Samsung has revealed its own processor that will be powering the flagship smartphones-reportedly called as the Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+, and Galaxy Note 10 and expected to come from the company in 2019.
The new home-grown processor is called the Exynos 9 series 9820 processor. It is based on the 8nm Low Power Plus (LPP) FinFET process.
The company claims that the processor can enhance the battery life with a low power design. 8nm LPP claims to reduce power consumption by up to 10% compared to 10mn LPP process.
The new Exynos 9820 processor comes with integrated with Neural Processing Unit (NPU), a component which is said to mark in processing Artifical Intelligence (AI) tasks.
The company is said that the processor can able to perform AI-related functions seven times faster than its past.
“From enhancing photos to advanced AR features, the Exynos 9820 with NPU expands AI capabilities of the mobile devices,” said Samsung.
The new Exynos 9820 chipset has 4th generation custom CPU that consists of two custom cores. Two Cortex-A75 cores use for optical performance and four Cortex-A55 cores use for better efficiency. Tri-cluster with intelligent task scheduler increases multi-core performance by 15 percent compared to the previous Exynos 9810.
The company said that the 4th generation custom CPU with enhanced memory access capability improve the single core performance by up to 20% or improves power efficiency up to 40%.
Another highlight of the new chipset is its LTE-Advanced Pro modem. The integrated modem features LTE Category 20 to offer downlink speed of up to 2.0Gbps with 8x carrier aggregation (CA) and uplink speed of up to 316Mbps.
Samsung claims that the stability and speed of the modem are enhanced further because of the 4×4 Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output (MIMO), 256-QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) and Enhanced Licensed-Assisted Access (eLAA) technology.
The Exynos 9820 has high-performance GPU Mali-G76 MP12. It features wider execution engines with double the number of lances compared to its predecessor. The Exynos 9820 offers up to 40% improvement in performance or 35% enhancement in power efficient compared to its predecessor.
The Exynos 9820 processor enhanced the photography levels. It’s advanced Image Signal Processor (ISP) and an IR sensor enable flexible multi-camera solutions. The new Multi-Format Codec (MFC) helps users to record videos that support encoding and decoding of 8K videos at 30fps.
For security, the new chipset uses Physically Unclonable Function (PUF) to manage and store personal data. While PUF supplies the security key, the unique key manager features other security protocols like key generation, derivation, and storage.
